Guinness World Records, known until 2000 as The Guinness Book of Records (and in previous U.S. editions The Guinness Book of World Records), is a reference book published annually, containing an internationally recognized collection of world records, both human achievements and the extreme of the natural world. The book itself holds a world record, as the best-selling copyrighted series.
To celebrate the release of the Guinness Book of Records Gamer’s Edition, Guinness World Records are holding a Guitar Hero Relay Marathon event tomorrow night in Central London. The event is set to take place at Zavvi on London’s Oxford Street and starts around 6pm. Kicking off the record breaking relay attempt will be The Rev from The Prodigy and the cast of the hit West End musical, We Will Rock YOu. Plus the Frag Dolls will be in attendance showing everyone just how its done.
For all you Guitar Hero fans in London get yourself to Zavvi on Oxford Street for 6pm for your chance to help achieve this record breaking attempt. Guinness World Records are also encouraging anyone attending the event to dress up as your favourite Guitar Hero character or Rockstar. You don’t have to dress up but for those into their cosplay will probably love it!
Those taking part will play in pairs to one song before passing on to the next two players. Pass overs need to be done within 15 seconds. Tag along with a bunch of friends and you will get the chance to form a group and compete for the highest score set by 6 people playing just the one guitar. Sounds a bit mad bit each person gets allocated one fret note to play and one gets to do the strumming bit.

Guinness World Records Introduces Inaugural Gamer’s Edition
For the first time in history, Guinness World Records offers the definitive guide to all gaming records, facts and figures in Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008.
Hitting store shelves in the US on March 11th, the Gamer’s Edition announces new records such as: Halo 3 as the Highest Grossing Game In One Day generating $170 million worth of first day sales in the U.S. alone and Fastest Completion Time For A Game Of Super Mario Bros., an astounding five minutes flat. Quiz masters will also enjoy video game trivia such as Faiz Chopdat who served the Longest Prison Sentence For Playing A Computer Gameafter refusing to turn off his Tetris game while aboard an airplane — and Grand Theft Auto III, which holds a record for having the Most Guest Stars in a Video Game, including Samuel Jackson, Ray Liotta and Dennis Hopper.
So why has Guinness World Records, the world’s best selling copyrighted book, expanded into the world of gaming? The answer is simple; because the gaming industry is too big to be contained in just a few pages of the annual book. As gaming records are one of the largest sections in the Guinness World Records database it only made sense to create the Gamer’s Edition to highlight the amazing facts and figures that have made the gaming industry what it is today.
Bursting with new records, high score statistics and fascinating facts the all-new Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008 is an avid gamer’s ultimate companion.
